Asheville Regional Airport Opens New North Concourse

Asheville Regional Airport unveiled the first phase of its $400 million terminal expansion on June 25, 2025, marking a significant milestone in the largest infrastructure project in its history. The newly opened North Concourse features seven gates, expanded seating, updated concessions, and a modern design inspired by the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains. 

With the South Concourse now under construction and set to open by 2027, the project will more than double the airport’s size—enhancing capacity, improving passenger flow, and cementing AVL’s role as a key travel hub for Western North Carolina.

Passengers now move from the modern ticketing lobby through an intuitive new security area and up to a spacious concourse with mountain views, upgraded seating, local food options, lactation suites, art installations from River Arts District artists, and live local music. All gates in the North Concourse will be fully operational by the end of July. The airport currently has 27 nonstop destinations available, many of which are also international hubs

AVL has seen tremendous growth in the past decade — tripling its nonstop destinations and welcoming more than 2.2 million passengers in 2024. These upgrades support that growth and highlight the airport’s role as an economic engine for the region, contributing $3.9 billion in impact and supporting over 22,000 jobs.

More enhancements are on the way. By late August, the rental car counters will relocate indoors to make room for an expanded baggage claim area and new rental car lobby.

New Non-Stop Flight from AVL to D.C.

On June 20, 2025, Allegiant began its new nonstop service to Dulles International Airport (IAD) in Washington, D.C. This new flight means that Allegiant now offers 19 convenient nonstop flights from AVL to destinations around the country.
