• Asheville Community Theatre has been a cornerstone of the Asheville arts community since 1946, making it the oldest continuously operating theatre in the city—and one of the oldest community theatres in the nation.

ACT presents a wide variety of programming including the ACT Mainstage Season, Youth Production Season, Readers Theatre Showcase, ACT Late Night, and the Summer Play Series. Productions are held on our Mainstage, in the intimate 40-seat black box theatre, “35below”, and in immersive, found spaces throughout the community.

Our robust Education Program offers professional theatre arts training for youth and adults, including full-year youth performance troupes, theatre arts classes, and hands-on technical training. We believe theatre builds skills that last a lifetime—confidence, collaboration, empathy, and creative thinking—and we offer full and partial scholarships to ensure access for all.

ACT is powered by 10 full-time staff members, employs over 250 part-time artists and instructors annually, and creates meaningful opportunities for more than 300 volunteers each year.

We believe in the power of theatre to enrich lives and strengthen community. Everyone belongs at ACT—attend a performance, volunteer, audition, work, and play with us!
Proudly serving Asheville for 79 years.
